The Young American Shakespeare Festival 2012
It’s a circus, it’s a satire, it’s a gruesome family recipe pie!
With three plays in repertory, Walden Theatre’s 2012 Young American Shakespeare Festival does it all. This year’s lineup includes The Bard’s classics TITUS ANDRONICUS and CYMBELINE plus the vicious satire VOLPONE by Shakespeare’s contemporary Ben Jonson.
- TITUS ANDRONICUS directed by Charlie Sexton
May 15, 18, 20 @ 7:30pm, & May 12, 13 @ 2pm
Murder, dismemberment, and a relentless cycle of revenge accent the struggle between General Titus and the Queen of the Goths, culminating in appalling body counts and a gruesome pie (a secret recipe, sure to delight) in this sci-fi inspired production. - CYMBELINE directed by Julane Havens
May 11, 13, 16, 19 @7:30pm, & May 20 @ 2pm
Feisty, resourceful Princess Imogen is beset on all sides: her scheming new stepmother the Queen, her doubt-wracked husband’s charming but deceitful friend, and even an invading Roman legion. Can true love prevail over battle, ambition, and treachery in this three-ring circus of interwoven plots? - VOLPONE directed by J. Barrett Cooper
May 10, 12, 14, 17 @ 7:30pm, & May 19 @ 2pm
Greedy, lustful Volpone tricks three moneyed gentlemen into offering him lavish gifts – including the beautiful Celia – to earn his favor in this lively, vicious satire full of grifters, pranksters, and bloodsucking knaves.
