Comedy and romance take the stage as Walden Theatre closes out its 2012-13 season with the annual Young American Shakespeare Festival May 9-19. This year’s lineup includes two beloved plays by the Bard plus a terrific new adaptation of a biting French classic.

Valentine and his self-serving friend Proteus are fools in love with Sylvia. As they vie for her affection, one is banished as an outlaw and the other is spied upon by a jilted lover disguised as his page. Will either man get the girl – any girl – in this unlikeliest of buddy comedies?

by David Ives, adapted from Pierre Corneille, directed by Charlie Sexton
The motto “the unimagined life is not worth living” drives Dorante into a hysterical high-wire act of confabulation as he lies his way into – and out of, and into – trouble in this agile-tongued, updated adaptation of a classic French comedy.
