Cowboy-Aliens-Image-webAlienation and disaffection are the touchstones of these two plays showing in repertory July 18-23 by the Walden Theatre Alumni Co.

In Cowboy Mouth, a woman kidnaps a man with the intention of making him into a rock star on the level of Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger. But much of the story of this play lays in its creation: Pushing themselves and pushing each other’s buttons, writers Sam Shepard and Patti Smith traded turns at the typewriter in a challenging, frequently antagonistic 48 hour collaboration that plays loose with reality.

The Aliens features a trio of young men isolated from one another and their small town convening daily to talk Bukowski, music, and life. This production, staged outside, uses the sounds of summer as a heartbeat for the script—filling the ample silences inhabiting the fissures between these angry, alienated characters.

All performances are at 1123 Payne Street.
Tickets available at $6 each or $10 to see both shows
and may be reserved by calling 322-5079.
Box office opens 30 min before shows.

Directors Ben Park (’08) and Maggie Rogers (’10) have been involved in the Alumni Company since graduation, performing in and directing more than 20 shows between them, including the recent Failure: A Love Story directed by Park in a co-production with the Walden Theatre Conservatory in March 2016.
