The work of artists is invaluable in times of change, and now is a crucial time for us to inspire one another. In that spirit, Commonwealth Theatre Center is extending to our community’s artists an offer of free tickets to see our upcoming production of the absurdist masterpiece Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco.

Opening weekend is December 9-10, and we hope you can also join us for a drink and a snack at a private, free pre-show reception on Dec 9 beginning at 6pm. (Please RSVP here for the reception)

What better way to balance the holiday season’s commercial overload than with warm camaraderie and FREE ABSURDIST THEATRE?

Rhinoceros is a brilliant allegory about the rise of Fascism, and it features a hapless and harmless man whose town is overturned by its own inhabitants after they transform into rhinoceroses. The parallels to today’s political and cultural anxieties are unmistakable, and Ionesco’s work remains a powerful call for humanism and resolve in the face of uncertainty and violence.

This show is performed by our Professional Company-In-Residence, made up of our staff of theatre pros alongside talented Conservatory actors in supporting roles. Director Hal Park will be familiar to some from his successful turn as producing director of Kentucky Shakespeare in the 1980s, and from previous shows with the company that earned rave reviews: Misalliance and Uncle Vanya.

Rhinoceros runs December 9-17, with this Artist Offer available for the first weekend. We’ll reserve complimentary tickets at will-call for you and a guest, just call us or contact (mention “Artist Comp”) and let us know which performance you will attend. Dates/times available are listed below (house opens 30 minutes before each showtime).
